Overconsumption
Digital Photography
This series of three photographs presents a portrait of a woman, focused on her face from the
clavicle to the upper part of her cheekbones.
In each image, a fishing hook pierces her lower lip,
gradually pulling and stretching her mouth tighter with each successive photograph. The woman shows
subtle resistance to the growing tension, reflecting an internal struggle against the force that restrains her.
The soft, pale tones of the skin and background highlight a surreal, ethereal quality, creating a visual
space that invites deeper reflection.
Overconsumption critically addresses the themes of overconsumption and overexploitation,
using the metaphor of the woman caught by the hook to reflect on the dynamics of exploitation
in both the environment and the representation of women in contemporary society. By comparing the
female body to natural resources, the series draws a parallel between the exploitation of nature,
particularly overfishing, and the objectification of women, whose value is often reduced to their image.
This work invites reflection on excessive consumption and the power dynamics that perpetuate exploitation,
emphasizing resistance as a means of reclaiming autonomy, both personally and collectively.
